FELLOWSHIP FORMS

Faculty Development Awards General Guidelines and Instructions - Faculty members who are seeking any of the faculty development awards below are strongly urged to review the guidelines and instructions. These guidelines were developed to assist faculty members in writing successful proposals. In addition, faculty are urged to consult the SPC Academic Handbook (Chapter VII, section E) for descriptions and regulations regarding Faculty Development Awards. Any questions regarding guidelines and instructions should be directed to Frederick Bonato, the Director of the OFRSP.

1. Faculty Fellowshipsto assist faculty in the study and research requisite for their professional development. Faculty first become eligible to apply for semester awards in their second year of full-time service. These awards are available for two semesters at half salary, one semester at full salary, and/or a summer. For details of the scope and duties of the award, consult the SPC Academic Handbook. Please note that in accordance with the Academic Handbook, a faculty member should not apply for a fellowship that would coincide with the semester(s) of the year in which that applicant is considered for tenure. The deadline for applying for a Faculty Fellowship is September 1 (submitted to chair).

2. Kenny Fund Fellowship – to support research and scholarship during the summer. For details of the scope and criteria of the award, consult the Office of Faculty Research website. No separate application is required. Candidates for Summer Faculty Fellowships will be considered for this award. Use the Faculty Fellowship application to apply for a Kenny Fund Fellowship. The deadline for applying for a Kenny Fund Fellowship is October 1 (submitted to chair).

3. Faculty Research Associates – to begin or continue research projects that do not require the time available on a Faculty Fellowship. For details of the scope and duties of the award and for application forms, consult the Office of Faculty Research website. Up to fifteen awards will typically be available each academic year. Research Associates receive one course release each semester for up to two academic years. This year the deadline for applying for a Research Associate award is September 1 (submitted to chair).

4. Faculty Teaching Associates – to prepare interdisciplinary electives. For details of the scope and duties of the award and for application forms, consult the Office of Faculty Research website. Two awards are available in each academic year. Each Teaching Associate receives one course release for one AY. The deadline for applying for a Teaching Associate award is September 1 (submitted to chair).

5. James N. Loughran, S.J. Fellowships: The James N. Loughran, S.J. Mission Fellowship, named for the 21st President of Saint Peter’s College, is used to assist members of the Full Time Faculty in study, research or development, of courses, projects, professional development conferences and workshops, that advance the Jesuit mission and Catholic identity of Saint Peter’s College. The single most important criterion for evaluating a proposal is its potential for strengthening the Jesuit mission and Catholic identity of Saint Peter’s College. The deadline for applying for a James N. Loughran, S.J. Fellowship is September 1 (submitted to chair).

RESEARCH FUNDS REQUEST FORMS

Funds for Research – to cover eligible incidental expenses connected with research. Deadlines for application are September 1, December 1, March 1, and June 1. Guidelines for expenses and application forms are at the Office of Faculty Research website.

Funds for Travel to do Research – to carry out research. Requests are limited to a maximum of 50% of the least expensive transportation to the principal site and will be reviewed by the Committee on the Professional Development of the Faculty. Deadlines for application are September 20 and January 20. Application forms are at the Office of Faculty Research website.

Funds for Faculty Attendance at Workshops and Short Courses – to support participation in workshops and short courses. Requests are limited to a maximum of 50% of registration or tuition. Deadlines for application are September 1, December 1, March 1, and June 1. Application forms are at the Office of Faculty Research website.

Funds to Present at Professional Meetings- This form is used to request travel funds for presenting at a conference, or presiding as an officer at a professional meeting. It is advised that this form be submitted to the office of the Academic Dean (CAS/SBA) as soon as plans to attend such a meeting are made.

REPORT FORMS

Report after Completion of Faculty Award - Report is due 30 days after the completion of an award/fellowship. The report should be forwarded to the appropriate department chair who should then send copies of the report to the Vice-President for Academic Affairs and the Academic Dean (CAS/SBA).
