Getting an I-20

In order to get an F-1 student visa, you will need an I-20 form from the College.

In order to get an I-20, law requires that you prove that you can support yourself while you live and study in the United States. Students usually do this by showing that they have the funds available for their first year of study and their source of support will continue to be available to them for each year of their academic program.
The college determines the Cost of Attendance each year. This estimate includes an approximation of the tuition, fees, books/supplies, room, board, transportation and personal expenses of an average student.

Documents needed to prove support:

  1. (REQUIRED) A current & original bank statement. The statement must be a CURRENT (less than 6 months old), OFFICIAL and personal bank statement, printed on ORIGINAL bank stationary. It must clearly state the name of the account holder, amount in the account and the type of currency. If it is not in English, it must be accompanied by an English translation.
  2. (REQUIRED) An affidavit of support. A letter (affidavit) from your sponsor(s) that clearly states that they intend to provide you with a certain amount of financial support for each year while you study. Please note that the amount specified must be at least sufficient enough to meet the expenses that you are responsible for (excluding scholarships). The letter must have an original signature(s). We cannot accept photocopies or faxes. A sample affidavit of support is attached here: Affidavit of Support

Please note:

  • Letters of employment do NOT exclusively fulfill the financial supporting documentation requirement. They will be considered as supplementary NOT primary evidence of financial support.
  • It is also important to prove that these funds/sources of support are renewable and will remain available to you throughout your entire degree program.

Please submit the required financial supporting documents as soon as possible to the following address:

When your documents are received, they will be reviewed to ensure that they show the level of support needed. If accepted, these amounts will be entered onto your I-20 form which would then be mailed to you by regular mail which may take up to 2 weeks to reach you.

If you have any further questions pertaining to your obtaining an I-20, please e-mail the International Student Coordinator at: ttrivedi@spc.edu
