  • Agency for Health Care Research Part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this site provides access to papers on Evidence-based Practice, Outcomes & Effectiveness, Technology Assessment, Preventive Services, and Clinical Practice Guidelines.
  • All Nurses Links to multiple search engines and to Internet resources on nursing, diseases, software.
  • American Nursing Informatics Association ANIA "seeks to promote nursing informatics through communication, education, research, and professional activities." The Association's site offers information on their goals, meetings, conferences, and membership. The page also maintains links to other sites related to nursing and nursing informatics.
  • BioMed Central BioMed provides free access to peer-reviewed journals in biology and medicine. Journal titles include the Journal of Biology, the Journal of Negative Results in BioMedicine, Population Health Metrics and others.
  • BUBL 5:15 Provides links to nursing and health resources, primarily in the UK, from BUBL, an Internet subject directory designed for higher education.
  • Cancer Medicine. 6th ed. "This text is a reference source for medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, internists, surgical oncologists, and others who treat cancer patients."
  • CANCERLIT a bibliographic database of over 1.3 million citations and abstracts, from the National Cancer Institute. 
  • CINAHL Library Pdf files of CINAHL News. Some of the issues provide search guides for effective searching of CINALH and MEDLINE>
  • ClinicalTrials.Gov ClinicalTrials, from the National Institutes of Health, provides "information about a trial's purpose, who may participate, locations, and phone numbers for more details."
  • Cochrane Reviews "Cochrane reviews are based on the best available information about healthcare interventions. They explore the evidence for and against the effectiveness and appropriateness of treatments (medications, surgery, education, etc) in specific circumstances."
  • Combined Health Information Database from health-related Federal agencies. A very good source for materials on AIDS education, cancer, diabetes, school health and other topics. (Discontinued 2006 but gives links to other databases)
  • Digital Human "The Digital Human is an Open Source Software Consortium that uses information technology tools to simulate and represent the body's processes, such as the functions of DNA molecules and proteins to cells, tissues, organs, and gross anatomy." -- Scout Report
  • Disability-Related Resources on the Internet from project DO-IT (Disabilities, Opportunities, Internetworking, and Technology) at the University of Washington. Links to discussion lists and Web sites.
  • eMedicine World Medical Library This site, designed as a showcase for a unique collaborative Web publishing system, offers peer-reviewed texts for health professionals and consumers. The site also offers a link to the Gold Standard Multimedia Network's Integrated Medical Curriculum with excellent interactive modules in anatomy, physiology, histology, pharmacology, immunology and medical ethics. Free registration is required for the GSM series.
  • Encyclopedia of Psychology Links to 2,000 resources in psychology, behavior, addiction and related areas.
  • Gray's Anatomy from the 20th edition of 1918.
  • Health Web's Nursing Homepage Career and other resources.
  • HealthyNJ Consumer health information from UMDNJ.
  • Lippincott's Nursing Center Tables of contents from the American Journal of Nursing, Nursing Case Management and others, career guides, Internet links
  • Literature, arts, and medicine database This database from New York University Medical School provides interesting annotations to works of art, literature and film that relate to medicine.
  • Material Data Safety Sheets Find Material Safety Data Sheets and links to other safety resources.
  • MedHist: the guide to history of medicine resources on the Internet Provides "evaluated, quality Internet resources relating to the history of medicine ... covering all aspects of the history of health and development of medical knowledge." This site is sponsored by the Wellcome Library of Medicine in London
  • Medicine & Bioscience Virtual Library Provides links to many medical reference sites.
  • Medscape Medscape from WebMD features newslinks from Reuters Health and Medscape Medical News,leading articles from major medical journals, free CME programs, selections from Scientific American Medicine, and very useful Specialty Home Pages. Free registration is required.
  • National Academies The National Academies advise the U.S.Congress on science, engineering, and medicine. From this page you can read current National Academies news and find links to the 3,000 publications that the National Academies make available to the public.
  • National Guideline Clearinghouse "a public resource for evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. NGC is an initiative of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services"
  • New Jersey Medical and Mental Health Related Professional Boards From the State of New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, Division of Consumer Affairs, this is a directory of NJ licensed physicians, nurses, acpuncturists, podiatrists, marriage and family therapists, and other health professionals, with links to forms, tables, rules, and laws.
  • New York Emergency Room RN "free patient simulators for physicians, PA's, nurses and others. Simulated adult and pediatric trauma, cardiac and metabolic emergencies." -- interactive
  • Newswise Designed for science and medicine reporters, this is a database of press releases from university research labs, medical and scientific publishers, drug companies and others.
  • NHS Health Technology Assessment Programme From the National Health Service in Great Britain, "The purpose of the programme is to ensure that high quality research information on the costs, effectiveness and broader impact of health technologies is produced in the most effective way for those who use, manage and provide care in the NHS."
  • NOAH New York Online Access to Health, a popular site for consumer information.
  • NurseZone This site offers a variety of links from job issues to life issues. Job search is by specialty and state. Career links include resume help, traveling nurse links and continuing education. Student nurses also have a special link for new grad jobs and resources.
  • Nursing Center Contains journal articles, job opportunities, etc.
  • Nutrition Information and Resource Center From the Food Science Department of the College of Agricultural Sciences at Pennsylvania State University
  • Nutrition Source: Knowledge for Healthy Eating Information on nutrition from the The Harvard School of Public Health
  • NutritionData Nutrition Facts Calorie Counter gives a complete anaylsis of foods and has a special section on foods from fastfood outlets.
  • On-Line Interactive Patient Simulators Links to free on-line patient simulators for physicians, PA's, nurses and students, from New York Emergency Room RN
  • Online Journal of Issues in Nursing "a free, peer-reviewed, international, online publication that addresses pertinent topics affecting nursing practice, research, education and the wider health care sector." 
  • PubMed "access to over 10 million citations in MEDLINE, PreMEDLINE, and other related databases" from the National Library of Medicine.
  • Scirus A search engine that searches only screened educational and scientific sites and journal articles in Elsevier Science journals. Links will take you to the site or to the article in Science Direct.
  • The American Dental Association research and consumer information on dentistry.
  • The Blindness Resource Center from the New York Institute for Special Education provides links to resources and a history of Braille.
  • The Guide to Internet Resources Related to Aging compiled by the AARP
  • UMDNJ Libraries Catalogs of the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey Libraries
  • Urbana Atlas of Pathology Discusses general pathology as well as cardiovascular, endocrine, pulmonary, and renal pathologies.
  • Virtual Hospital The Virtual Hospital is "a digital health sciences library ... at the University of Iowa to help meet the information needs of health care providers and patients." It contains multimedia textbooks, case studies, and continuing medical education resouces. Highly recommended. (Discontinued as of 2006 but content remains available online)
  • Web Path: The Internet Pathology Laboratory for Medical Education 1900 microscopic and gross images, tutorials and text on human disease. An excellent site for students.
  • WebMedLit Allows users to search and retrieve abstracts or full-text from 23 clinical journals, including JAMA, The British Medical Journal, Brain, Archives of Surgery, and others.
